My family is the BEST!
Today we only had morning clinic and we are getting so close to the end of the semester! I still have a few PE's that I desperately need to pass off, one of them being the blood glucose one. Which thank you to Uncle Dave he is so willing to come be a patient for me and letting me take his BG since he is a Diabetic. He seriously is the BEST! Never complains and always asking if I need any more people to work on to make sure I meet all my requirements. Seriously I love my Family! And what better way to catch up on things than to do a cleaning at the same time ;) Not only did I get the BG PE passed off but I was able to get my infection control done as well. I finished him in no time which felt amazing! I mean I know he is only a 1B but I was completely done and had him out the door my 9:30! Really I think I'm starting to get it! I think I might actually be getting faster!

MOCKBOARDS!
Today was mockboards and thanks to Heidi I had a patient! She was so willing to share her patient with me once she found out I still hadn't found anyone that would qualify. My patient was awesome but yet very difficult at the same time. Heidi saw him for the morning session and he said that the anesthetic doesn't work on him... ok... we tried again anyway. yep he was right it didn't work :( He kept jumping and twitching which made it really difficult to get him completely clean, but he was a good sport about it. He had thick rings of calculus around his lower anteriors which was SOOO tenacious! my ultrasonic took forever to get it off! And yet it was so gratifying to see the chunks of calculus fly off and the difference at the end.

I swear the VA only has class V's! Today was awesome but yep 8 more quads of class V. I saw the sweetest lade ever this afternoon! Not your typical lady vet. She was all dolled up and really looked like a high maintenance kind of lady. She was hilarious,
she's a southern bell and I was a little surprised that she was LDS.
She was talking all about the church and places she has lived. I started
talking with her about things she likes and she loves health and
wellness type stuff and especially beauty stuff, so ofcourse I had to
tell her about Joy Life! She was so interested and so encouraging. I
instantly felt like I had a bond with her. I could seriously just sit
and hangout and chat with her for a long time. She honestly changed a
lot of the way I thought of things. Amazing what you can learn from your
patients and how they impact our lives!

Finding Patients...
So this morning I saw a patient that someone else was the preferred provider. This was so frustrating to me cause I didn't know when I schedule him. I called one of my patients my peer pal gave me and she couldn't come in but her husband wanted to come in. Great! Its Wednesday night and I don't have a patient so sure I'll see your husband. Low and behold of course I get to clinic this morning and he was Olivia patient. I did what I could to call her and let her know what had happened and she was totally cool with it. I tole her that I would try to return the favor and give her a class II back when I found one. So frustrating when families have multiple preferred providers! Luckily we have lab this afternoon, cause I need a break!

The return of the LIAR!
This afternoon I brought in the liar from last week to finish. I tried to get him to be a mock board last time but I think when he used the bathroom last time and looked in the mirror, the difference in his teeth were amazing and he didn't want to wait. There was so much staining it was incredible what that ultrasonic did. And I think he actually did try to brush and use the techniques that I taught him last time. The plaque score was so much better and his tissues in the quad that I cleaned just a week ago looked so much healthier! Yay! What I do actually makes a difference in peoples lives! I finished his other 3 quads and I'm not sure that I want to be the one to see him in the spring. He kind of has an attitude... but I want to see the improvement so bad! I might just have to buck up and deal with it.

Yet again...
VA today though always crazy wasn't to bad. The best part is that Olivia, Candace, April and I get to go outside in the amazing weather for lunch. I yet again saw 2 class V patients and was able to finish them both. Yay 8 more quad of a class V and Im on the road to meeting requirements! We've been getting to know Barb a little better and I'm not sure what to think yet.

LIAR! LIAR I SAY!
So this afternoon I had a patient come in that had called last week when I was CA. He was in the older 20's and said he doesn't remember the last time he had a cleaning, aka he never has had one. So since he hasn't had any dental stuff done in such a long time I told him that we really needed to do a full mouth series of xrays which he opposed to when I told him the cost, which was fine so I said ok then we can do 4 BWX and a pano. Of course to no surprise he was ok with the BWX but not the pano, " it was cutting into his lunch money"... (my eyes rolled)... so we went on with what we had. I got him back and started his OD and asked about his home care.. typical answer, " I brush 2x's a day and floss 1 time a day." this is where I seriously about bust out laughing. all said and done, BFI 0% and PFI 0%! I think the number speak for themselves. I was only able to get one quad done but he was a class II.
Finished? what?
So this morning was AWESOME! So last year I was never able to finish a 1B in a single appointment and guess what?! somehow maybe cause I know the flow of things and am not so scatter brained that was able to finish a 1B! Thanks and a big shout out to Kalli! She is so amazing and such a good friend to be willing to come in for me. It was so nice to be able to talk real dental with a patient and good friend that I haven't seen in forever! I can finally see that I might actually be improving!

CA Duties
Today was pretty chilax. April and I were CA for the day which I have to say was really pretty nice to get back into the swing of things for Weber clinic. Not having to worry about seeing a patient and seeing how things run again around here, it was nice. :) I was able to help out with charting, which was a good refresher, and then did a fair amount in the front office. Still not a fan of MR. Solomon.... I'll just say he irritates me....

Round 2!
Ok so its day 2 of the VA and I was yet again able to finish a class V! This afternoon though was awesome! Connie let me help her with a patient and he was this extra old man I mean like about to croak on me in the chair, but he was a class IV! I was so awesome I was able to do a pano and bitewings and get 1 quad done. I wish I was able to get more done but atleast i got one quad! Also connie gave me a "crash course" on the files which will be amazing when I can really start to use them!

VA first day
Today was pretty crazy! I had more training in the morning for the VA and that in and off its self was so confusing. I HATE computers the more I am forced to use them. Now don't get me wrong I use computers a lot but when it comes to programs like what the VA uses I hate them and could literally throw them out a window! The afternoon went pretty well however. I saw a class V patient and was able to finish all 4 quads! Hurray some improvement there!

There's a light at the end of the Tunnel!
So today was an incredibly long day. In morning clinic I finished my 1 quad of Class III and got 3 more quads of a V and finished passing off all my Pe's! Holy cow it was a bit rough! Then I stayed for the afternoon clinic and my ever so handsome Hubby came in and I finished his 4 quads of a 1B and was able to do my final sealant experience. Thanks heavens finally all my requirements are done and done! Now off to party with the new incoming junior class and hopefully my new peer pal is easy going and ready for the craziness of the program. Give me a Hallelujah for finishing the first year of the program!

Really? First no Show!
so today totally sucked, I had a guy from my ward scheduled and the jerk no showed on me for the actual cleaning! I mean we've already done his xrays and now he doesn't care to finish and never returned my calls never aswered the phone, I know he's avoiding me. Me and Salomon called people on the resource list for over an hour! Nobody was willing to come in! So the angel Amy came to my rescue! with the help of the fabulous CA Sierra today and Katie my instructor for the day I was able to get through 2 quads! A crappy start to the day ends somewhat a good day! Thanks everyone for all your help! I was kind of a mess! ok So I was a HUGE mess!

Like pulling fingernails with pliers
So today I was finally able to get my brother to come back in which he has cancelled on me so many times it was like pulling fingernails out with pliers! The last time he came in he had tons of stuff going on, which Im happy to say most of it cleared up.He hasn't had a cleaning in ages and had tons of lower anterior calculus, you couldn't see the grooves of his lower anteriors is was so thick. But I was able to finish his this time and can I just say BEEAAUUTIFUL!! His teeth look so much better! Not trying to brag or anything but it feels so good to actually see that all the work you put into getting their teeth clean actually shows! Maybe I do remember why I wanted to do this!

Class III
Today I saw my Class III patient again which happen to also be my denture patient :) It was so frustrating though, so I cleaned the whole lower arch since there weren't very many teeth, got my scale check and missed like 1 spot! So I went ahead and started the upper arch and it took so long for my instructor to come do another check that I got through the whole arch going as fast as I could and when she came to see if I was done she says to me "you did the whole arch?" I said "yeah I want as fast as I could" and she has the nerve to say " thats what I was afraid of.." in front of my patient! Making me look like I have no idea what I'm doing. Then she goes on to say I missed like 7 spot so I go back and do the spots she said and she comes to check again and says oh no it told you wrong it wasn't there it was on this surface instead. Oh I'm so Mad I could just scream at her and not feel bad. I know I gave her the look of keep talking if you want to get punched in the face! cause after my patient left she was saying to me how I did such a good job and he was a really difficult case. BAH! Seriously?! today needed to be over before it started but at least I finished my Class III!

The ultra lab..
today we didn't have any patients we had a lab learning how to clean a denture and take Blood glucose. Not really a fan of the cleaning denture its pretty basic. how ever the blood glucose was a little entertaining, trying to stick your own finger is a little nerve racking, so me being the wimp that I am had someone else do it. But all is well I honestly don't know how diabetics do that multiple times a day. How miserable. Thanks goodness I already have a patient I can pass off that pe on.

WORD.....hahaha
Ok so last week I saw this patient that I was not expecting to look the way he did when compared to his voice. Super nice but I mean his hair was longer than mine! It was so funny when I called to set up the appointment for today he answered and I told him who I was and he was like "Word", he just kept saying it. I haven't heard someone talk like that in ages! It took all I had to not start laughing on the phone. But thank goodness I finished him and got another 1B down! Cheers to actually getting somewhere with requirements! I might actually make it, and I feel some what successful today.

A1c? Whats that?
So today I had my first patient that was diabetic. Holy cow there is a ton of information you have to ask when they have diabetes! So I started into the routine questions and when I asked what his A1C was he says " whats that?" Oh my goodness where do I go from there. So come to find out when ever he gets it checked with his doctor they never call and tell him and he has never bothered to call and find out. But we made it through and what a trooper! I am so blessed to have family members that are so willing to help me with my school requirements. Also after working on him I found out that we have to pass off a blood glucose pe on a patient so what better person to do it on than him! I will have to make sure I reschedule him for after we have learned the pe in clinic. Though I only made it through an OD, I feel like I'm making some progress!

Flappin' in the wind
Ok so I just have to say that Amanda thanks for the class III/ denture patient but holy cow was it a very difficult case. I hardly made it through OD today and even then I was so frazzled that I completely forgot to write a statusrx anywhere on the chart at all, and I forgot to chart mobility and such. Rough day. I'm a bit worried to bring him back, and though it was a tough case he was very kind and patient with me. I couldn't have asked for a more kind patient. Thank goodness today is over!

I feel like I'm on a roll. 4 quads of class V. getting so close to quad requirements, now if I could just get my xray requirements.

8 quads 1B!
So today I had my mom again to get her all finished up and it was so awesome. I noticed once i finished her cleaning that she was a good candidate for sealants! So being ever so generous she said go ahead and do what ever you can to get what you need done.Sweet! Yes still january and I have now completed 8 1B's and 8 1A's. Must keep pushing!

What is it with People backing out on me?!
Ok so last night about 9:00 pm I got a text from my brother who was supposed to be my patient today and he totally backed out! Really 9:00 pm on a sunday night?! So my incredibly handsome and supportive hubby brought two of our kids Madison and Dillan and they did so amazing! I had maddi sit in the chair and she says " Mom, I'm a little scared but I'm trying to be brave." Aww thats my tough little girl! Thanks for helping mommy out. She's never had Xrays and did so amazing! got them done without a problem, no gagging or retakes! Dillan on the other hand was getting so tired and ready for a nap but he did so awesome. Though no xrays he did awesome holding still letting me clean his teeth.

Once again... bailed on
So yes once again my brother in law had to bail on me, due to his ex-wife, so my incredibly easy going and dependable friend helped me out and we got her finished! YES! a total of 5 quads 1B so far and it's not even the end of the month, as long as I can keep this rate up I might actually meet the requirements for clinic! And not to mention I had a chance to pass off a couple of PE's. good day.

Thank Heavens for family!
So I was going to have my brother in law come but he had to bail on me nearly at the last minute so thank heaven my amazing mom was willing to come! I wasn't able to do xrays which is a bummer but at least I was able to get another 1B started! I absolutely love clinic and seeing the difference from when I start a cleaning to the end results. Awesome!

First REAL Patient!
Today was so exhausting! I saw my first real patient and even though it was just a 1B holy cow I feel like I'm slower than tar. I got very good xrays and no retakes! Whoot Whoot! The thing that made today so long was I had to be C.A. for afternoon clinic and they were way behind on schedule. I was barely walking out of the building at 5:15! crazy! Hopefully timing will start to improve for all of us!

Back to the grind stone...
So I haven't posted in quite a while today was the first day back and a new semester, of actually seeing patients!
Today we learned the Ultrasonic which I think I'm going to love. The only thing that makes me nervous to use it is that it leaves small burn marks on my typodont, I know I know real teeth are different but still if it gets that hot who's to say it won't damage real teeth?! Any way awesome day, So excited for the rest of clinic days!
