Happy End of semester!

Happy End of semester 1! this is the last week of clinic and all our classes Im so excited, I can't hardly wait for the much needed break. Im so ready to catch up on all the things that have been left behind like my sleep!

11/28/11

So today we really didn't do much, we went over what to do if an emergency arises and what you do as a CA and how Taleval will work more next semester. Not to exciting, also we had our clinic manual test today and I don't think I did to bad I know I missed 1 for sure, oh well I just couldn't find it in the book but know what I was looking for. That sucked.

Happy Thanksgiving Week!

Hooray! we have it off for thanksgiving! I totally needed the break and am so excited! Now for some time of R and R!

11/21/11

First real patient day!!! So today I worked on my first real patient! Thanks Matthew! I think things went pretty well except there was a lot of wasted time waiting for instructor checks which really sucked cause I could've gotten so much farther through the appointment if I didn't have to wait. Oh well I got what I needed done and thats good enough for me.

So today was second day of mock patient and it went so much better! I love instructor Hafen! She makes things seem so much more relaxed. She was very good about helping me and give good constructive criticism and in a way that she doesn't tick ya off.

Rough day! So today was my first day of mock patient and I was getting so frustrated! Not about how I was doing but some people just don't know when they are making things worse and don't know when to back off! Seriously I just wanted to say either back off or you're going to get punched in the face! Lets hope wednesday goes better!

11/9/11

Today Heidi finished me as mock patient and she did really well again, which what else can you expect from some who works so hard. The only thing that hurt was the instructor checks and when she slipped and had a little tissue trauma goin on, which really wasn't much cause by the time clinic was over it wasn't even sensitive anymore, just more jaw was sore from staying open so long. I also passed of my instrument sharpening and the all awesome Heidi let me borrow her mini manual to copy over the weekend which I am so grateful! Thanks Heidi!

Slurpee Day! Get it 7-11. Ok lame I know. So today I was mock patient for Heidi and she did so awesome! It makes me a bit nervous, I haven't scaled or probed in what feels like ages! I guess we'll find out on monday how I do! Awesome Job Heidi!

So today I passed off my  sealants and again something so simple becomes so difficult for me. I always miss one spot and have to redo it! So frustrating! But its Done and Heidi was a good sport about it. Thanks Heidi!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Happy Halloween! Today we did sealants and can I just say something so simple I can make very difficult! Today has been such a mess. I'm so scatter brained I think I just need to go home and sleep. I think Im so exhausted I can function right. Hopefully tomorrow will go a little better!

10/26

Today I passed of my IntraOral Camera and we learned how to do selective polishing and air powder polishing which I don't think I like at all. It makes a huge mess, ,tastes gross and is a bit painful. NOT a fan!

Monday 10/24

Today we learned how to enter a patient into eagle soft which is a lot of info to do. I also passed off my OHI and Dental Screening! Yay! I get so excited seeing all my PE's getting done I don't have to many more to do!

universal curette

I passed off my universal curette! I was told I did very well and seemed comfortable with it. Hooray! Finally something I did well at! I think it all is coming slowly but surely.

sickle scaler

I'm a little behind but I am now going to catch up! I have passed off my sickle scaler! I didn't do to bad I just need to gain more confidence, and work on my indirect vision. but I'm happy with that. Can't complain.

scaling skills

Today was a bit frustrating! we learned how to do our anterior scaling which I'm way excited about but so frustrating to stay at the right angles and be aware of patient comfort. Lucky I have an awesome pod that are very forgiving! I also passed off my probing PE and I think I did ok except for going over on the time limit. So intimidating though to have to have the instructors examine all our stuff and make sure we got accurate measurements. I definitely will be practicing this weekend!

identification please....

So today we started learning our instruments and practiced our probing and exploring so it was an ok day. I definitely need to practice this through the weekend and hopefully Aaron doesn't hate me after Im done! Today is also the day my baby turns 2 months Im so excited! I get to go home and take his 2 month pictures!

Exploring

Today we learned exploring which is so much harder than it looks. trying not to poke the patients gums is so hard you think you have turned the explorer far enough but never do and then when you think you have turned it to far that where its supposed to be! So frustrating! Thanks April for being a good sport sorry I poked you so many times. :S Hopefully I will get better with practice. I'll just say sorry to my husband in advance. So nervous to pass it off in the next week.

Oral probing any one?!

So today was awesome! we finally got to work on each other practicing our probing. I worked on April which was such a good sport, since I kind of hurt her cheek with my dang mirror. Other than that I think I did pretty good. Professor Costley observed as I probed and the only critique she said was to be aware of my mirror! I was so nervous! But it went well. Cant wait to learn more!

It's a party in your mouth!

Today we learned all about doing intraoral exams. which was actually more interesting than it sounds. Looking for any unusual things found in each others mouths and seeing all the different things we each have just with in the class. I'm so excited to actually get going on real patients!

Free Facials!

Today was like a spa day, felt so nice. All we did was extraoral exams and basically gave each other facial massages. I could definitely use a massage like every day just to relieve all the tension and pressure from being in the program. I vote we all have a dental hygiene spa day! It was fun each clinic I get excited to learn more of the skill I will be using for the rest of my career. I love clinic days!

Vitals... the silent killer

Ok so I haven't been very good about keeping up on my blog but here we go, today as you can tell we learned how to do vital on each other and it wasn't to bad. Just a review really. Past clinics have gone well we have learned how to properly hold some instruments and it just makes me all the more excited to learn more skills and techniques.

First day of real preclinic

So today was amazing to say the least! I am so excited to finally start back into the dental world, it has been far to long! I absolutely love learning all the skills in clinic and it makes me more excited all the time to finish the program in 2 years and start the rest of my life as a Hygienist. I think for the most part it will be a challenge but I'm going to look forward to the clinic days the most weather it be radiology or actual clinic. This is such an exciting time!

Holy Moly! I am not a blogger! So much going on today, first day of clinic and wow! Its going to be so fun! I'm a little freaked out by all the information and things going on that I have to remember to get done. Hopefully my poor brain can handle everything!
